Project de.sign is a graphic design lecture series organized by four European cultural institutes and embassies in Prague – Goethe Institut, Instituto Cervantes, Netherlands Embassy in Prague and Embassy of the State of Israel.
The event was established in 2011. The main goal of the project is to introduce to Czech audience extraordinary and influential designers from the Netherlands, Spain, Germany and Israel. Every year, there are four lectures in Prague plus lectures in university towns in the Czech Republic (Brno, Ústí nad Labem, Plzeň). Some of the speakers also had workshops or exhibitions.
The lectures series became a very popular event especially among students and young generation of designers as it provides an excellent insight into the working process of designers with different culture backgrounds. Among the designers speaking in Prague were David Tartakover, Fons Hickmann, René Knip, Isidro Ferrer, Oded Ezer, Diego Feijóo, Trapped in Suburbia, Sven Voelker, Mario Lombardo, Yaron Shin – Jewboy, Toormix, Maureen Mooren, Christoph Dunst, Bas Jacobs, Octavio Pardo and Ben Nathan.
The entrance to presentations is free and all the lectures in Prague (either in Goethe Institute or Goethe Institute) are interpreted to the Czech language and recorded on video. The recordings of the presentations are available at SlidesLive.com website. The designers are selected by curator Filip Blažek, local graphic designer and typographer.
The fourth season of de.sign was focused on graphic designers who are specialized in type design and the fifth year will be focused on illustration, this year’s event will be curated by a special guest Ludmila Favardin from the publishing house edition lidu.
